Rocking

Lillian rocking and singing her babies a lullaby. She made the song up on the spot.

Unwrapped

We got rid of all of our Christmas wrapping paper (yes we are those people who have given up traditional wrapping paper) and Lillian thought the empty wrapping paper box looked like fun.

She blinded me with science

Sitting with Lillian in her rocking chair before nap:

Lillian - Mommy, let's talk about science.

Mommy - Science? What about science?

Lillian - Science.

Mommy - OK (racking my brain to think of something) The weather is part of science and elements and chemicals.

Lillian - No mommy not that just regular science.

Mommy - Regular science?

Lillian - Talk about Max and Ruby going to gymnastics class.

Mommy - That I can do.

I have no idea where that came from. Does she know I am starting on the stressful task of researching preschools and trying to make tours before the enrollments start in January. Yes the preschool enrollments will start in January for the 2009-10 school year. Seems way too early to book your kid into a school eight months before they will actually get to attend.

Lillian's XMAS List

Just some suggestions if anyone is looking to get her a gift

Like Daddy and daughter

We were in the attic last night looking at the new furnace and decided to bring down the XMAS decorations and clean the attic a bit. Down came old clothes and a box of toys. The box had some of Joe's old action figures in it.

Joe has already converted Lillian into liking comic books - they make some for small children called Tiny Titans - and apparently she also likes action figures. Here they are playing with them last night:

We had to eat breakfast with some of them this morning and they have already been used as a bribe to get her dressed and her hair brushed.

This is what happens

when mommy has a bad cold and we are stuck in the house all day while the furnace is being fixed. Let the child paint while I sit and veg out. I will say Lillian obeyed the rule to keep the paint off of the carpet and furniture.

Thanksgiving

Besides being thankful for my family, I am most thankful for this:

programmable thermostat for a brand-new furnace AND air conditioner

For a second year in a row, our Thanksgiving holiday has been marred by appliance issues; last year our washer stopped working and the dryer was starting to burn up. This year our furnace decided to quit working, during a very cold winter weather streak!!! We made it through with lots of firewood, plug in heaters and blankets. It wasn't all that bad actually.

Thursday we (Joe, Lillian, Granny and myself) spent huddled around the fireplace with breaks to eat and drink. On Friday we headed to see Joe's parents and brother/cousins. And to pick up some free firewood.

Our dinner: squash soup, turkey and gravy, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, rolls, pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream, wine and sparkling apple cider.
