Truffles and laughs

Sunday were attending a holiday party for Joe's improv comedy group. It was a pizza and dessert buffet so we made truffles that morning. And of course Lillian had to help. It was truly a wonderful morning, making truffles and listening to Christmas songs. Lillian ate more than she actually made but she was a help. It's good thing none of us had gotten showered or dressed yet!

Lillian was very good at the holiday party. She did good being with complete strangers and mostly adults. There was one boy, Zachary who is four and a few girls that were in elementary/middle school. Zachary I have tagged as her future husband. Lillian ate her food and even provided some comedy relief. She had fun running across the stage and interjecting various commands at the most appropriate times during the presentations! Such commands as: "No, dance!" and the ever popular "No!" The last command happened while she was walking along some seats and wobbled and both Joe and I reached for her. She screamed "NO!" and everyone turned and started to laugh. We did not now what was said at that time of the presentation but apparently her scream of NO came at the right time! Lillian of course started to cry when she noticed that people were laughing at her so she and I left for home. It was past her bedtime anyway. When Joe came home he said that one of the guys told him that there were high expectations placed on Joe's comedy skills given those that Lillian displayed that night!

Hey Santa Claus

Last weekend our favorite toy store had Santa in for a visit. We really like this Santa because he brings Mrs. Claus with him and she helps to calm the little ones. Last year Santa worked with us and snuck up behind Lillian and daddy to get the picture. This time, Lillian and mommy were on their own since daddy had a wrestling gig.

The whole week we talked about Santa and that he was nice and so friendly. Lillian said she would sit on his lap and give him a hug and maybe even a kiss. All went well until we pulled into the parking lot. Lillian said Francesca the frog (her critter of choice that day) was a bit nervous. I told her to tell Francesca there was nothing to be nervous about. When we got into the store, she would not even go over to watch other kids visit with Santa. So we played for a bit with the kitchen set and the dolls. I told her she could bring the doll with her and she still would not go. So I tried bribing her with food. I said if she went over and sat on Santa's lap, then I would take her to get a special Christmas donut. To that I got a snort. Which means she really wanted the donut but really did not want to see Santa.

We made our way to the line and when it was our turn, she would not budge from my arms. Not even Mrs. Claus could get her to look. So here is the finished product of 40 minutes in the store:

After a nap and the trauma of Santa wore off, we headed to the local Moravian church for their Christmas Candle Tea. The church holds it every year and I have only been once before but I always want to go each year. We arrived at the last hour of the tea but we got to look at various hand-crafted items from church members, try some Moravian cookies and sugar bread, watch beeswax candles being made and hear some music. The church invites local high schools to perform and we got to see the Sanderson High chorus. They were so good. Lillian was not very impressed with it; she just wanted to eat more cookies. But all in all we had a very fun-filled day and got us into the Christmas spirit even more.
