Chilly Bear

Lilly recently received a baby doll named DeeDee. Lilly likes to kiss DeeDee and chew on her fingers and toes (we are in the midst of at least 4 teeth coming in at once).

This morning, Lilly was given Chilly Bear to play with (it's a freezeable teether in the form of a polar bear). After Lilly was done chewing on Chilly Bear's paws, she decided he was thirsty and gave him some milk. She then gave Chilly Bear a great big hug:

Dancing Queen

Not everyone is blessed with dancing moves like Lilly:

Spooning

Lilly prefers to feed herself these days - when she sees the spoon or fork come at her, she says no and tries to take the utensil from you. We try not to let her use utensils unless it's dinner time; she tends to get very messy and bath time is directly after dinner.

I gave in this morning and let her feed herself the oatmeal. She did pretty good. Of course, once the camera was turned off she decided to fling oatmeal across the kitchen!

Gardening

Daddy planted our vegetable garden over the weekend and Lilly wanted to help. She had a good time playing with the pots the plants came in and the watering can.

Lilly's photo shoot

A couple months back while we were eating lunch at Whole Foods, a woman came up to us and said she worked for an organic cotton children's clothing company and they were holding photo shoots for their new line and thought Lilly should come. With the promise of a free pair of organic socks and a professional 5x7 we signed Lilly up.

Lilly is not so sure about strangers so she was a little reserved about a room full of people oogling her but she trudged on like a little trooper. We were the last appointment for the day and I think the photographer had had his fill of children and longed to be photographing model who actually could understand how he wanted them to pose. Of course Lilly saved the best smiles for when he was inserting new rolls of film and when they said they were done. Lilly did not get chosen to be in their catalog but here are the two pictures they sent us:

She's our cover girl!

Homestyle Grand Slam Breakfast

I was feeling a bit guilty for the breakfasts Lilly has eaten the last couple of days (oatmeal and fruit) so I decided to give her a Mommy Grand Slam Baby Breakfast today. Lilly was presented with a plate of a scrambled egg, a piece of soy sausage, grapes, banana and bread. Much to my surprise she ate just about the whole thing - without any of it being thrown on the floor. Too bad the same can't be said for lunch!

Hungry, Hungry Lilly!

Queen of the laundry

This week I discovered that Lilly can open the laundry room doors and she has enough strength to open the washing machine door. Lilly likes to "help" with laundry - she is great at pulling the clothes out of the washer and handing them to me to put in the dryer but does not like the clothes to go in the washer or dryer. It is a battle to get the clothes in before she has a chance to pull them back out.

Toothbrush fun!

Lilly's third tooth is STILL trying to come in and now her fourth tooth is on its way. Lilly has decided that her battery-operated toothbrush is now a bath toy rather than a tooth cleaner. Here Daddy and Lilly are enjoying some toothbrush fun in the tub (yes, we still bathe her in the sink - she still fits and it's easy on our backs!)

Nice to the kitty

Mommy had a playdate over the weekend and Lilly got to tag along. Miss Irma has a new kitty, Rascal, and Lilly enjoyed playing with him. Lilly is not used to a cat that actually will come up to her and hold still while Lilly attempts to be nice to the kitty. Rascal even gave Lilly kisses on her forehead. Thanks Rascal!

I'm still hungry!

Lilly tends to finish her dinner before mommy and daddy. And
by finish I mean throwing all her food on the floor. To keep her from
bucking out of her booster chair, we give her some teething biscuits to
occupy herself. Apparently the biscuits were not enough to satisfy
Lilly last night; she used her hunting and gathering skills to find an
acceptable snack:

She is very pleased with herself!

Deperate times call for desperate measures

What a Monday! Lilly is suffering with a bottom tooth (her third tooth) that is ready to pop through. She ran a fever Sunday night and had been oh-so cranky today because of it. And to top it off, Mommy had the nerve to put her in a dress so every time she crawls, her knees land on the skirt and she can't move forward. Finally the dress came off.

At lunch I discovered that Lilly's toenails were need of a trim. I thought since she was strapped into her booster seat it would be easy to cut the nails. Lilly had other ideas. I finally dragged her chair (with Lilly still in it) into the living room and parked her in front of the TV. Yes I know TV is bad for babies but I discovered the trick for trimming her fingernails. Juts turn on a cartoon and she will let you trim her nails. I turned on PBS but Sesame Street was on and that does not grab Lilly's attention. I end up putting in the DVD of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (the first cartoon DVD I came across) and popped that in. And it worked. I'm not proud but Lilly's toenails are nice and short now!
